BOW Logo Contest
I love the outdoors. Because of this, I spend as much time as possible doing fun outdoor activities. A couple of years ago, I was introduced to the NYS Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program. The program is part of the Department of Environmental Conservation Education division and is designed to teach women outdoor skills.
BOW “provides women with information, encouragement, and hands-on instruction in outdoor skills such as fishing, shooting, archery, hunting, trapping, outdoor photography, map and compass, survival, camping, canoeing, and outdoor cooking.”
The weekend learning new skills is also a little vacation for me, and I have enjoyed attending the last four years. I have had the opportunity to learn many of the skills listed above and more. I even have my taxidermy specimen, “Clawed” Monet, decorating my desk.
2018 is the 25th anniversary of NY State’s BOW program, and they held a logo contest for any interested participants. I was very excited to enter.
I took some time out of my busy schedule to construct some logos that I thought would do well. It was harder than I anticipated. The entries had specific requirements, such as:
- The 25th logo MUST contain the words “Becoming an Outdoors-Woman” or “BOW,” OR it MUST incorporate one of the existing BOW logos into its design.
- Ideally, the words “New York” and the number 25 should be incorporated into the 25th logo.
- No more than four different colors should be used in your design. However, the logo must look good in color (if any) or black and white.
Of course, it can’t contain any copyrighted materials, and the winning logo will eventually belong to BOW. The logo design contest winner does receive bragging rights and a t-shirt that features their logo. So, it is worth giving it a shot.
Here were my entries:
It was a lot of fun coming up with ideas. I was only allowed to submit three, even though I had a few more. I still may play with the others and see what come of them.
As you can see, it’s not all work when I sit down and create. Opportunities like this give me a chance to stretch my talents and have a little fun.
