This was my illustration for the Sept/Oct 2024 edition of the National Science Teacher’s Association’s journal, Science and Children. I created the illustration to accompany David L. Harrison’s “Saving the Best for Last” poem in the “The Poetry of Science” column.
He wrote the poem about the leaves changing colors in the fall due to reduced chlorophyll production. Since my illustration needed to be black and white, I took some time to ponder how I might show Harrison’s premise. Luckily, chemistry came to my rescue, and I could illustrate the chemical structure of chlorophyll on a leaf.
