Fortune Cookie Friday: Humor
Most of us feel some stress in life and I am no different. When times are frustrating I usually cringe and growl, hoping that the stressful aspect will disappear. That doesn’t always work, as you would surmise. When those times arise, I usually resort to humor. Some say, “Laughter is the best medicine,” and I prescribe it often in my life.
Those awkward moments of life for me are when I see others dealing with stress and I feel like the only way I can help them is to be humorous. I’ll admit that my humor can be a bit campy at times, but those that need it, look over that fact.
The most difficult times I have are at funerals. I am one of those people who think funerals are just TOO depressing. They should be more like celebrations. Not the “Ding-Dong, the witch is dead” type, but at least a little lighthearted. The people in our lives should be celebrated. It seems the only reason we cry when they are gone, is that they are no longer with us. Well, they are still with us. Each, and every, person that we meet touches us, changes us. We are who we are because of the people in our lives.
I know it is awkward to cut jokes at funerals, but that is who I am, and how I deal with death. Yes, I am sad, but I am a better person for knowing the departed. If a little humor eases someone’s grief, then I hope to have a comedian at my funeral. I don’t want those that I know to cry that I am gone, but that I will always be with them. I will wait for them in heaven and watch over them, even if they are in the bathroom.
