Fortune Cookie Friday: Refreshingly Quiet
Imagine we’re walking down a winding path in the woods. The dappled light seeps through the branches above. The wind rustling through the trees, the twittering of tiny birds, and the low ripple of a hidden brook overshadow our padded footfalls.
How does this make you feel? Are you more relaxed? It doesn’t necessarily have to be the woods. One could easily imagine a sunny beach, a tropical garden, or a library stacked with books. The point is to take a moment and have some quiet time.
Often our busy lives are full of stress and noise that it can wear us down. Think about all of the activities that fill our days. Think about the car horns beeping, the people talking, and the phones ringing. Think about the list of tasks that we need to complete.
Oh, sorry.
I hope I didn’t stress you out. Go back to thinking about the walk in the woods if that helps. If you would like, you can listen to some calming music while you read the rest of this post. Consider Jonathan Lee’s Desert Sunrise.
Now, not everyone can find a secluded garden to embrace their thoughts, but we should get a little quiet time every day. Although we have important responsibilities like work or school, we need to take some time to care for ourselves. We have to make sure that we eat well, exercise, and get enough sleep. We also need to seek out quiet places and take some time every day to find serenity.
Taking quiet time each day can really help rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit. It allows us to assess our day and discover what’s important. With so much going on, quiet time can help make order out of our chaotic lives.
We can reduce stress by taking some time in a quiet environment and allow our bodies to heal. Take some deep breaths and relax those tight muscles on your face, shoulders, and back.
Moments sitting quietly, meditating, or listening to music can lower blood pressure and center our minds. We can even go for a peaceful walk or take a brief nap for 10-15 minutes. When we’re finished, we can return to our tasks more focused and energized.
Let’s face it; we’re humans not machines. Even a computer needs a reboot once in a while. A little quiet time is just the reboot that we need to run efficiently. After I finish writing this post, I will take a short peaceful break to recharge.
Hey, the fortune was right. I will have a refreshing change in the future. Enjoy some quiet time today.
